Getting off the eggshells
Jim LaPierre Says...
Hey there - great question. Walking on eggshells is always stressful and never something I'd wish on a person. Being truly supportive of a person in recovery means being genuine. I encourage you to embrace the words of Dr Seuss who said, "Be who you are and say how you feel. Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
If your dad is doing what he needs to do, three years is a great foundation and if he is not working recovery then it won't make a lot of difference whether you walk on eggshells or not. I'd encourage you to check out the common traits of Adult Children of Alcoholics and see if any of that pertains to you. Good luck!
