The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center ministries in the United States provide an in-residence rehabilitation program with a focus on basic necessities. Each beneficiary (program participant) is provided with a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction, and resources to assist each person to develop life skills and a personal relationship with God as provided by Jesus Christ.
Anyone is welcome, as long as they are willing to participate in a Christian program of recovery and willing to work within the organization as they undergo treatment, as a way of funding their stay. Salvation Army ARC rehabs generally run for 6 months or longer, you can get in for free and all of your food, shelter and clothing will be provided free of charge during this period. The Salvation Army, provides sober sanctuary for those with nowhere else to go and changing lives for the better across the nation.
It was awful! I needed help getting back on my feet after my son passed away. I had always admired The Salvation Army. My Mother and I made donations to the Waltham branch on several occasions. Being a Christian I went to the program for help as I was struggling with my faith. I was treated very poorly by staff and the women who were in the house with me were newly released from jail. I didn’t understand what I was getting into here. It was very cult like. I must admit I did get closer to God because I was treated so badly that I had to rely on God. It was like being an indentured slave. We had to work in a warehouse with no moving air and we were not allowed to wear tank tops because we couldn’t show our shoulders. I ended up leaving the program because it was doing more harm to me than good. I would never recommend this program to anyone. So sad that my whole view on this organization has been tainted.
